Flooding caused by an earthquake and torrential downpours have caused death and disruption around the planet.

An earthquake on Saturday morning (February 27) in the South-America country of Chile led to 100s of flood warnings around the Pacific, with Japan suffering from high waters.

While deaths are being reported in the already devastated Caribbean island of Haiti as heavy rain causes havoc in the country which was almost levelled by an earthquake in January.

Most of Europe's coastline also has flood warnings in place following a weekend of intense rainfall.

Yesterday (February 28) saw Britain take the worst of the weather with floods warning in place.

The floods claimed one life in the United Kingdom with 53-year-old Vanessa Robson drowned when her Land-Rover was swept away by high waters.

Chief forecaster at the Met Office, Richard Young, said: "After spells of wet weather last week, we are expecting more heavy rain and strong winds over the south of the country.

"We are monitoring how the situation develops and you should keep up to date with the latest forecast on TV, radio or online."

The European heavy rain is expected to carry on towards Denmark today (March 1).
