In December 2003 the Water Framework Directive (WFD) (WFD 2000/60/EC) came into force providing a clear framework for the protection, improvement and sustainable use of water across Europe. The main objectives of the Directive, which has since been transposed into UK law, are to: - Enhance the status and prevent further deterioration of aquatic ecosystems and associated wetlands - there is a requirement for nearly all inland and coastal waters to achieve ‘good status’ by 2015 - Promote the sustainable use of water - Reduce pollution of water, especially by ‘priority’ and ‘priority hazardous’ substances - Lessen the effects of floods and droughts STL have been working on a development programme to meet the requirements of the new Directive, and are now able to offer the majority of analysis. STL work closely with our customers to ensure our analytical package meets the redefined legislative requirements. Click here to find out more about Severn Trent Laboratories Ltd
